BOSSA

On Thursday nights I usually perform at Topaz Hotel in Dupont Circle. Its usually a pretty good show and a lot of fun but sometimes that can be a toss up. Whenever I get done there sometimes I will head over to Seaton's room to perform or just go up there to say hi to some comics. Seaton Smith (for about 6+ months now, maybe closer to a year) has been doing an open mic at BOSSA in Adams Morgan. This is a really cool open mic because it is a different feel than all other open mics in DC and NoVa. The room is very small and intimate and there is usually a big crowd there. I have performed there about 3 times and really enjoyed 2 out of the 3. I really like the fact that it is more of a conversation with the crowd than just running through your material. You really are in a space that lends itself to being more of a social performance and I think it is a really cool element of stand-up to work on. You don't have lights in your face or even a stage. There is little separating you from being a chosen audience member that gets to talk for five minutes and I think that is really cool. It isn't so refreshing if what you are doing is bombing because you can plain as day see the disappointment in the faces of the crowd but it is really awesome when you are doing well. If you are in the DC area on Thursdays stop by Bossa in Adams Morgan next to Madam's Organ. Show starts between 8:30 and 9:00 and runs for about an hour and a half to two hours. Top DC comics are there every single week and the show is absolutely free. The ambience of BOSSA is enough to just go and hang out for a drink or two. Yes, I am a walking brochure now. For halloween I'm gonna be a kiosk.
