Awesome Week at the Improv

Since I started standup in DC, I have a certain love for the DC Improv. In the city it is the main standup comedy attraction. So anytime I get to perform there I am extremely grateful. The past week of work there was a lot of fun and it was cool hanging out and talking comedy with DC Benny. I feel as though I learned a lot about my presentation to the crowd in the emcee role as opposed to a feature role or just doing time at an open mic. A lot of people think standup is just standup but it isn't really just standup when you are emceeing a show. Its a little different showwise. I had a great time though. I feel like I've come a long long way since my first standup experience. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I work really hard on my own stuff and I haven't ever ripped a joke from another comic. I think it is so weird when you see guys doing material that isn't their own, sort of takes the fun out of the whole point of standup. If art isn't about making money or getting famous, then you never have to take other peoples jokes. Do your own stuff and really enjoy it when it works out and learn your lessons when it doesn't. Not that I've been approached about this, but its just something that crossed my mind recently and I never know who reads this blog anyways. I am heading off to Las Vegas this Thursday thru Monday to hang out with Ryan Conner and Danny Rouhier and a bunch of Ryan's college friends. Ryan is getting married in October and this is his bachelor party weekend. I've never been to Las Vegas before or even a bachelor party. I think this is going to be a really good time. And by good time I mean (insert something funny here). OUT.
